Piggy
Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
Piggy ("we," "us," or "our") is an expense tracker app for iOS, operated by Akshat Dwivedi ("Developer"), based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we store it, and the choices you have.
Summary
- Local-first by design. Your transactions, budgets, and most spending data are stored on your iPhone or iPad.
- Optional account. If you create an account or sign in, we store account and profile information in the cloud so you can authenticate and sync selected data.
- Receipt scanning is optional and on-device. If you scan a bill or receipt, Piggy uses your camera or a photo you choose, reads text on your device to suggest an amount, and does not upload receipt images to our servers.
- We do not sell your data. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to advertisers or data brokers.
- You can delete your account in the app.Permanent deletion is available under Settings → Login & security → Delete account.
- Permissions are optional. Camera, photos, and notifications are only used for features you choose.
Information we collect
Financial and app data (stored on your device)
Piggy is built as a local-first expense tracker. The information you add — including expenses, income, categories, budgets, notes, and related entries — is stored on your device unless you are signed in and cloud sync applies to your account.
When you save a transaction after scanning a receipt, we store the expense details you confirm (such as amount, category, and merchant/note). We do not keep the receipt photo on our servers.
Account and profile information (when you sign in)
If you create a Piggy account or sign in, we may collect and process:
- Email address— when you register with email, or when provided through Sign in with Apple (including Apple's private relay email).
- Name — when you create an account with email, or when provided through Sign in with Apple. We do not ask you to re-enter your name after Sign in with Apple if Apple has already provided it.
- Profile preferences — such as your display name, currency, monthly budget settings, and optional onboarding answers.
- Authentication data — handled through our authentication provider to keep your account secure. We do not store your password in plain text.
Receipt and bill scanning (optional)
If you use Scan or Upload when adding an expense, Piggy may access:
- Your camera — only when you tap to scan a receipt or bill with the camera.
- Your photo library — only when you choose an existing photo to upload.
Piggy uses on-device text recognition (OCR) to read text from the image and suggest fields such as amount and merchant name. This processing happens on your device. We do not send receipt images to our servers for scanning, and we do not use receipt images for advertising.
You can always enter expense details manually without using the camera or photo library.
Profile photos (optional)
If you add a profile picture, you may use the camera or photo library. Profile photos are stored on your device. We only access images you explicitly choose or capture.
Subscription information
If you subscribe to Piggy Pro, payment is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status (for example, whether you have an active Pro subscription). We do not receive your full payment card details.
Support communications
If you contact us by email, phone, or through the app's support options, we receive the information you choose to share so we can help you.
Website waitlist (Android)
If you join our Android waitlist on piggybudget.com, we collect the email address you submit to notify you about the Android launch.
Crash and performance data
If you opt in to sharing analytics or crash reports with Apple, Apple may provide aggregated diagnostic data to developers. Piggy does not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs for ads.
How we use information
We use information only to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Piggy app and website
- Let you log expenses, including optional receipt scanning to pre-fill amounts
- Create and manage your account when you choose to sign in
- Sync profile and related data when you are signed in
- Process and manage subscriptions through Apple and RevenueCat
- Send optional notifications you enable (such as spending reminders)
- Respond to support requests
- Send Android waitlist updates if you signed up
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not use your financial data or receipt images for advertising or profiling.
How we store and share information
Service providers
We use trusted third-party services to operate Piggy, including:
- Supabase — account authentication and cloud storage for profile and related account data (and transaction sync where applicable when you are signed in)
- Apple— App Store billing, Sign in with Apple, and (if you opt in) crash or analytics data through Apple's systems
- RevenueCat — subscription status and entitlement management
Receipt scanning itself is performed on your device and is not outsourced to a cloud OCR service by Piggy.
We do not sell your information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited data only:
- With service providers listed above, to operate the app
- With Apple, for billing, subscriptions, and Sign in with Apple
- When required by law, such as a valid court order or legal process
- With your direction, for example when you contact us for support
Device permissions
Piggy may request the following permissions. You can deny or revoke them at any time in iOS Settings → Piggy. Denying a permission only disables the related feature; the rest of the app continues to work.
Camera
Used when you choose to scan a receipt or bill while adding an expense, or when you take a profile picture. The camera is not used in the background.
For receipts, the camera captures an image so Piggy can read text on your device and suggest an amount and merchant. You review and confirm before saving.
Photo library
Used when you choose to:
- Upload an existing receipt or bill photo to scan and pre-fill expense details, or
- Select a profile picture from your library
We only access photos you explicitly select. We do not browse your entire library without your action.
Notifications
Used to send optional reminders — for example, budget prompts or streak reminders. You control notifications in iOS Settings and inside Piggy.
Face ID / Touch ID (if offered)
If enabled, biometric unlock is processed on your device by Apple's secure systems. We do not receive or store your biometric data.
Data retention
- On-device data (including transactions you save) remains on your device until you delete it, delete your account in the app, or uninstall Piggy.
- Receipt images used for scanning are processed on-device; Piggy does not retain receipt photos on our servers.
- Account and cloud data is retained until you permanently delete your account in the app (Settings → Login & security → Delete account) or contact us to request deletion.
- Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe or we no longer need them for the Android launch.
- Support messages are retained only as long as needed to resolve your request.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information we handle. Because much of your financial data and receipt scanning happen on your device, you should also protect your device with a passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID and keep iOS updated.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you.
Delete your account (in the app)
You can permanently delete your Piggy account at any time:
Settings → Login & security → Delete account
This permanently deletes your account and associated data from our servers, including your profile and cloud data linked to your account. Local data on your device is also removed as part of this process. This cannot be undone.
If you have an active Piggy Pro subscription, cancel it separately in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iPhone to avoid future billing. Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an App Store subscription.
Other privacy requests
For privacy questions or requests regarding waitlist emails or support messages, contact us using the details below.
Data on your device
You can edit or delete individual entries in Piggy at any time. You can decline camera and photo access and still use Piggy by entering expenses manually.
Children's privacy
Piggy is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
International users
Piggy is operated from India. If you use Piggy from another country, your information may be processed according to this policy and applicable local laws. Service providers may process data in countries where they operate.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of Piggy after changes means you accept the updated policy.
